For all those seniors who have technology anxiety, I use Gmail and was able to figure out how to download the Google app in response to a meeting I had agreed to. This allows us to have a support system for each other with eyes and ears when we want to visit with loved ones. It won’t replace the Zoom & Cisco WebEx platforms because the screen sharing is necessary for doing real work with real ADA-compliant documents. I don’t yet know how many can be on at once. I won’t be giving up my Zoom with the breakout rooms because that allows me to dynamically facilitate the “Everyone Counts Game Show” with 500 people any hour I have a trained crew…and to facilitate extended hybrid events so people are actually engaged instead of voyeurs.

I love using Google Meet. it's reliable for both voice calls and video calls. I use it for meetings, classes, coffee chats, etc. The app would be so much better if the host of a call could get a list of all people who joined the call at some point or the other (not just the people in the call at a particular time). It would be great for marking attendance at meetings and classes.

As CEO of a medium sized firm, I am normally a participant, not the host or a presenter, on video conference calls. For my purposes, I find Google Meet to be the most reliable and simplest app in its class, given it’s simple and seamless Voice and video service. Reception from my iPhone is normally excellent, vs other apps which seem to require more bandwidth. Operation is simple, as there is no need to enter a participant ID as I am automatically connected assuming the meeting has been set up by the organizer through a calendar e-vite. If a participant doesn’t have the app, it downloads within seconds, vs Microsoft Teams or Zoom, which are more complicated, require sign in codes, more bandwidth, have less reliable reception, require longer downloads and are more complicated to operate for participants unfamiliar with the app. I highly recommend Google Meet as it poses none of the above challenges. I find it to be the simplest to access and operate, and most dependable virtual meeting app in it’s class. 4.8 Stars.

The audio and video quality of the calls in Meet is quite good. I find it clearer and more reliable than "regular" phone calls. If I could make one suggestion for the dev team: when users open Meet, do not default to opening the camera immediately! In many cases, I want to just use Meet's audio call functionality but I can't open Meet at all since an open camera in the environment that I happen to be in at the time is not allowed. Overall though, great tool.

clear video when my kiddos wasn't shaking or walking around. the voice bit was difficult....I got it to wherever I could hear him thrnfirst go around. lost it on the 2nd. but I'm old and new technology or programs are always confusing at first. it's definitely better the previous apps of the same sort I've used. we didn't do a group call, but the one on one was worth a high rating.

First of all: I don't know why virtual backgrounds aren't available. Why are they not available?! Please bring them back!!!! Second: I have a suggestion. If not for the virtual backgrounds you can do something like on zoom where you can have like different meeting room templates each with a different setup and a different theme and different customizable meeting options. Like for example you could have a classroom template, and in there it could have always the raise hand feature, polls, breakout rooms, moderator has control over chat messages and students' microphones, or you could have like a hangout chat room, where there's lots of virtual backgrounds, a more interactive chat, and the option to change the screen layout. And those are just examples, the options are endless! Please make an update soon with the changes you've decided to make, and let me know! Thanks!

Hi. I am a student and have been using Google Meet for COVID-19 situation. It is a good app for classes and other stuff. I have been using this app for almost 6 months after my teachers decided to use Meet instead of Zoom. I spotted some problems during my time. But this new update fixed them all. And also made more issues...

I’m a high-school student doing everything virtually and sometimes i have to use the same device to use google meet and assignments. So if someone uses the chat box, I can’t see what they’re saying. I’m thinking that you can add like a notification box. Like how we get notifications for text messages and everything else. It would benefit me a lot if that was added so i don’t have to use a device to be on a google meet and another for assignments and etc. It would help if you add the notification bar to also add that we can chat back through that notification bar. I know with an iPhone you can do that, you can message someone back through the notification bar while watching something on netflix. I think this would benefit a lot of students like me on the long run. I hope you do this!!

Decent video calling app. Glad they offer e2e encryption. I have found one bug that has been around for over a year and is super annoying! When receiving a call if you select, "speaker phone" it switches back to, "receiver" when the caller starts talking. If you change it back to the speaker setting too fast it switches back to the receiver setting again. Typically when answering a call I have to select speaker phone 3 times before it actually stays on the speaker phone setting.

It's a bad idea of removing the full screen option to the host in updated version. I am a yoga teacher and I cannot see my posture from distance while teaching. I am using this app for teaching yoga since 2 years and liked it very much. But now I am facing problem because of non access of fullscreen mode to the host.

Update 11/10/2024 What is this crazy zoom that the app now does? You cannot see the total face unless you move the phone quite far away?! Google meet is up to the level of Google Duo. Very reliable communication app that allows you to place calls and video calls. Quality of calls is good, and drops are rare. Serving the purpose of professional and personal needs.

This app sucks. It would've gotten a 5 star review if it didn't have so much lags and glitches. While I'm playing other games it kicks me out of the game, keeps hanging up on whoever I'm calling, audio messes up alot, it's just annoying. Please please PLEASE fix it ASAP! I don't have any other apps to FaceTime on and this is my only option. Please and thank you.

This app on the moto devices could be more efficient. I had a meet phone call that last 20 minutes. It took 23% of my battery life. That's about 0.87 battery for every 1 minute of the 20 minutes phone call. That's actually quite a bit. However, I know this app is no longer like duo and has more functions now. Please find a way to optimize the app usage for mobile users. I use this function when I'm in a store and not tether to a charger.

With the new layouts, it keeps frustrating me. Firstly, why do I have to full-screen the video myself every so often? It's unnecessary, especially when screen sharing because I'd like to see what's on the screen being shared rather than having to full-screen it myself. Additionally, who's idea was it for the call to automatically hang up if you close the window from the app overview? It's annoying, especially if someone can't pick up the phone immediately.

Great concept, but poor execution. My main complaint is that whenever I use the app, it disables my Bluetooth headset. Mind you, these are GOOGLE HEADPHONES! Every time I use the app it happens. It depends on the day, but they divert audio every two minutes to every couple hours. And it's not like the headphones are disconnected or that Bluetooth is turned off somehow, it just disables audio output through my headphones. The only way I've found to fix it is to turn Bluetooth off and on again.

Before one app, called hangout, could do it all: text, images, audio and video. Moreover, you could call and be called. Now, three steps backwards: separate apps to install and manage, you have to plan in advance rather than call and be called when needed and you need a separate channel to share the meeting code, the worst invention of those stupid people at Zoom. Since Google is out of ideas, now we got that antifeature here too.

I would have given 2more stars only if 1. there was a confirmation message showing that do you wanna leave the meeting? in case one taps on the return button by mistake 2.There's no personal chat box to text people individually 3. The notification that one has joined or left the meeting, shows in the region where u type messages and when that happens you cannot send messages and u have to wait for it to disappear.

Not sure what's going on with this one, because it's not showing links to scheduled meetings (meeting links are on Google calander and in gmail), it's calling itself Google Meet (Original) with a slightly different icon on my device), which is very confusing. Video and audio quality has been poor the last few times I've used it (no network or device changes to cause it) as well.

Another issue found that has not been fixed in months. When you select your video camera to full screen in a call, you can not go back to the callers full screen. The only way I have been able to get the callers image full screen again is to end the call entirely and start a new call. This is EXTREMELY frustrating and makes the app very unpleasant to even use. This used to work fine for years and after an update about 4 months ago this issue came about. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

I am facing consistent heating issues while using Google Meet during video calls. This occurs regardless of whether I am connected via Wi-Fi or mobile data. The device temperature rises significantly within a short period of starting a call, which impacts performance and comfort while using the app. This issue happens every time I use Google Meet for video calls.

Seems to be a bug with the latest update. If you turn on the additional encryption setting and call a contact, they can not hear you until you turn it off. I tried, power cycling the phone. Force closing any and all apps accessing microphone, took-away and returned mic permissions to the meet app and none of these steps got the microphone working again until I went into my Meet app settings and turned off the additional encryption. It worked up until this current version though.

Google Meet used to be decent once it stopped ringing when someone was calling me. That's fixed now. Now when someone calls me and I say "answer" it's working so that's not working anymore, Hey Google Meet fix it so I can change the rating. Also, it would be really cool if people could end their calls with the side button to end the calls instead of the other way, it's faster and convenient for me and may be convenient for others. Just an suggestion 😊 Thanks

Very buggy and inconsistent. UI and functionality keep changing for no apparent reason. Certain functions are available intermittently, the option will appear and disappear depending on the day. Calls do not reliably come through. have attempted to troubleshoot and not had success. In call settings are meager at best. and this transition between the newer version and the "legacy" has been very choppy and unclear. Google has really gone down the drain on so many fronts it is impressive.

After reading the top 20 or so reviews I had to go back and look to see if I accidentally hit the critical review filter. It's horrible seeing the response from the app to these reviews. App works just fine, then there's an update, app turns to glitchy trash, developer says Network or device issue. Take responsibility, we aren't stupid. Keep playing real life Monopoly Google... history shows every single Empire eventually falls.

Replying to Google LLC since there is no reply button. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, I've cleared the cache and data. It defaults to automatically answering in speaker phone for the first couple of calls after uninstalling and reinstalling, or clearing the data and cache, and then it reverts back to answering as if the video call was a regular phone call. Even if I select the speaker phone icon during a call, if I try another call, it reverts back to coming through the ear piece.

Ever since they changed to the new style of meet calls, I can't make outgoing calls, but incoming calls work fine. I can clear app data and cache and get the old one back for one call and that still works. Whatever they did to meet, it's not working for me. A video calling app that doesn't make calls is pretty useless. Edit: the supplied help article isn't relevant to my issue, and I've been trying to get help from the help and feedback forum, they've tried to help but not working yet.

Can no longer enhance appearance when using app on android. The setting options are minimal. There are OTHER setting options when you're on a call which is extremely unhelpful if you want to have it set ahead of time. But regardless, the settings that are available when you're on a call do not include appearance enhancement. that whole option is gone. I'm not using your app anymore. I'll use another video chat app

I never had an issue until meet moved to its new call style. I used meet for a normal video call between two people it was perfect for that. Now the push for the "corporate" meeting style video call has dropped the call quality significantly. The UI is very cluttered, video is not clear, especially if there is low light. The audio has become choppy. I wish this app could go back to "legacy" calling. My phone no longer receives meet calls either. Look for a different video calling app.

My last call was taken on my home wifi network (I've never changed the app settings and it's always connected to my wifi in the past), but that call was counted as data usage. The app did not notify me during the call that it had unsolicitedly changed from wifi to data connection. I've since disabled the app and will not use it, at least on my phone.

I used to love this app. However, since the new Meet, nothing works like it used to. All of a sudden, none of my video messages go through. I keep getting an error code telling me to try resending, but it never does. The Q&A was useless. Now that I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, there's no option for video messages at all. I tried to re add the legacy features. None of the troubleshooting techniques work. I wish the ppl that decide to do all of these so-called upgrades would STOP!

Absolutely terrible. There is no Godly way on this green Earth to share both video and audio at the same time. You can share a video without sound, and you can share audio without a video, but heaven forbid you share both! I have tried their tab feature on my desktop, and I have tried sharing my phone's screen (which literally shares a black screen with no sound and force drops you out of the call whenever you try to open anything (like a Chrome tab or YouTube to play a video). Utter. Garbage.

This has been a huge problem and shake up. I'm at my senior center where it was much easier to make a video call with Duo for my client's. Now that it changed to Google Meet it's to many steps. What in the world did y'all do with this. You have made it much worse. Please make the steps more simplified. This new program wants you to send the link, before you make a call. Why not make the all without sharing the link like Duo previously did instead changing the whole platform.

Duo was better!! You could set up a call much easier! This is very clunky with too many steps. I make the call, I have to then send an invite which sends a link to Duo!!! The other pary clicks the link, then has to click on call to call me back. Duo was so much easier, especially when you have to work with someone who is not tech savvy. If you are trying to compete with IOS, you got a way to go.

I love this app, it’s great for online school. But recently you guys have updated the layout for mobile, and now it looks terrible. You’ve also made working the app more difficult. Before, you could see yourself fully before joining, with the option to mute or turn your camera off, and now you’ve made the screen in which you view yourself before entering the call smaller. Now I can’t look at myself fully and adjust my appearance if need be, because I can barely see myself. Also, I now have to go through a series of steps just to pin a person, or look at the chat. And now when I’m in the chat, I can’t see the person I have pinned anymore, because the chat takes up the whole screen. Also when I accidentally leave the call, there is no longer an option to rejoin the meeting, which is very frustrating. Please fix this, I had no issue before, so I don’t know why you guys had to change it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. You guys have completely went downhill with this layout.

I use google meets both on my phone and on my chromebook for school. On my chromebook, it’s great; the audio is a bit choppy on occasion, but other than that it’s pretty much perfect on my chromebook. On my phone however (I have an iPhoneXR if that has anything to do with it), the screen will just randomly go black while I’m in a google meet. It doesn’t do this when I’m on any other app alone, (when you’re in a google meet you can go onto other apps and still hear the audio from the google meet while you go on whatever other apps, just like FaceTime.) but when I’m in a google meet, my screen randomly goes black for about 4-6 seconds about 4 times every 30 seconds. I can still hear the audio, and the phone doesn’t turn off because when it comes back on again it’s on the same screen it was before and I don’t have to enter my password again. While the screen is black, even if I tap on, say, a keyboard, when the screen comes back on, it didn’t/doesn’t register that I pressed any buttons. This is quite frustrating, as I am currently in a google meet and it has taken me nearly thirty minutes to write this review. Hi there. Try checking the troubleshooting guide: https://goo.gle/3bPEpE6. If you are experiencing poor quality video calls, consult the troubleshooting guide: https://goo.gle/3aPnQHh. Hope this helps.

Google meet does work properly on my Mac, the sound doesn't work, people can't hear me, so I much prefer to use zoom, where the sound does work. Edit: as suggested in the reply I tested the sound and everything was fine, but as soon as I started using the app (on mac) , it srarted complaining about poor Internet (Internet was fine, I stopped the app, and tested various high bandwidth videos to stream) and my meeting colleagues were complaining about not being able to hear me. Windows only app?
