This is a beautiful, simple, and enjoyable game. The puzzles aren't majorly challenging, but they are interesting and fun to solve. The mobile controls also are very simple to use. They don't have the responsiveness of a keyboard or controller, but that's to be expected, and thus far the levels requiring timing haven't been hampered by the controls. The aesthetic, including the gentle piano and percussion track, adds to the relaxing feel. A great indie game!
This is the most amazing game I have ever played. It was recommended based on other puzzle/brain games, but this takes the cake. It not only puts my brain to work but it also complete relaxes me which sounds contradictory. It is my little personal zen space now. Thank you for the amazing artistic detail as well. #ChefKiss
BRILLIANT game. Each level continues to add a new element to the playing field that gives you yet another way to challenge the player. It also keeps the game less repetitive and more engaging. Finding a hidden track also made the world even bigger with replay value increased. Bravo to not only the gameplay, but the vision and soundtracks are exquisite. This is by far a work of art!!! Very well done. I look forward to another masterpiece 😊
Truly an amazing game. I wanted to give it 4 stars for the sometimes awkward controls and the rarely encountered bugs but I honestly can't. It's really that good. Visually stunning. Great puzzles. Is it perfect? No but it's the best puzzle game I've ever encountered. I wish the dev would create more levels, even as a paid "expansion", sequel or whatever. I've already finished it twice and I can't find a suitable replacement.
Love it. Exactly the right combination of logic and sequencing to make it fun. The teaching of new mechanics is beautifully subtly done, but keeps the challenges fresh. Whilst elements of timing are involved, it doesn't fall into the trap of becoming about reflexes, it's still about thinking and then executing, not about reflexes. The best game I've found in years!
This is an incredible puzzle game. After just jumping in I said it was pretty good, but now that I have finished it, it's amazing. I never thought I would feel as much emotion for little colored lines as I did by the end. It does a great job subtly teaching you the various mechanics and combined them all wonderfully. Mind bending at times but so satisfying when you solve it. Wow.
Played this years ago on console, and was delighted to see it on mobile - it's been long enough that I forgot like all the puzzles while remembering just how much I loved the game. The mobile adaptation is very slick - the controls feel great - and echoing like everyone else here in that the sound design is outstanding and really makes the whole game shine. Excited to play through this again in a new medium!
What an awesome game!!! I love the calming relaxing music that it plays as you try to figure the next puzzle. Interactive yet relaxing. Even if you are working on a puzzle for a bit, the music and the glow of the lights keep you from going crazy and just giving up, almost as if you were at Disneyland in a long line, but you're okay because of the entertainment all around you!
A good level of challenge, both in terms of solving puzzles and quick/precise movement (which was sometimes frustrating but that's ok!). I appreciate the ability to try over and over without penalty and to skip some of the puzzles to come back to later. The new elements were added at a good pace to keep things fresh without being overwhelming.
Unique & Challenging w/o Any Cheap Tricks I having playing puzzle games enthusiastically for 25 years. It's getting pretty tough to find unique environments or problem types that are actually worth playing. This game is such an amazing exception to that rule, when I say it "wow"-ed me, I mean I've found myself literally exclaiming out loud.
This is hands down one of the best games I’ve played on iPhone. The puzzles are interesting, there is a good mixture of difficult and enjoyable levels, and the music created a nice ambiance. Overall, a great journey into Linelight world (more like 6 worlds plus an epilogue and two extra worlds). Highly recommend! On a separate note, this game reminded me of Monument Valley, not in terms of the gameplay—they are completely different. However, the music and style certainly bear some resemblance for me. Check it out too if you enjoy good indie games for iPhone!
I really find this game to be quite entertaining, yet soothing when there are minimal to no other lighting around me. To me, I believe this game is probably the most addictive in the dark, and I believe it’s because the game’s graphics are just so beautifully laid out and it really emits a soft glow that doesn’t really exert a lot of pressure on you, in terms of planning out your strategy to successfully bypass an obstruction. Music-wise, I obviously find most of the tracks to be quite soothing and motivating, and it really matches the graphics and I do have to say. That last soundtrack at the last portion of any level is hands down, my most favorite part because it is really, really touching, plus, it sounds a lot like a lullaby, which frankly, there’s nothing at all wrong with that. In terms of the music beats, I think this game has some of the greatest beats I’ve ever heard. They sound very clear and are noticeable enough for one to move a bit to it! Whenever I make a screwup, sometimes I do it on purpose just to hear the rad beats!
I can’t begin to describe how much I love this game! It’s visually beautiful, the color scheme is calming, the music is enchantingly peaceful, and the puzzles are so much fun for an overactive brain like mine. I love that it doesn’t ever feel repetitive or mundane and keeps you absolutely engaged the whole time. It’s an easy game to hyper fixate on, and easily quiets a busy mind. The ‘characters’ you meet also somehow managed to make me grow an emotional attachment even though they’re lines lol. The ending literally made me cry and I’m mildly ashamed to admit that. Such a good game, I’ve played through it at least three times over the course of several years. I always delete it when done and come back to it after a long time just to experience the magic all over again ❤️
I found this game very enjoyable and sunk a lot of hours into it. Easily worth a cup of coffee. I won’t lie to you there are parts that are very difficult and require a lot of lateral thinking, but that is something I enjoy. I also loved that there were, surprisingly, hidden areas which gave me an incentive to explore. I never got stuck for longer than a couple minutes and everything is solvable if you experiment. The map is very helpful and well-designed, and I really appreciate that it shows the secret areas in general but leave them for you to find. I honestly wish there were more puzzle games like this that focus less on fancy graphics and more on spectacular puzzles. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the graphics because I thought they were beautiful, but it’s clear they invested a lot of energy into creating high-quality puzzles. Thanks again developers!
Saw the GDC talk. Great lessons. Now that I'm playing the game where those lessons come from can't help but notice how well they are all applied. Limelight gets 5 stars from me because it goes above what a puzzle game (on mobile) normally is, in terms of presentation, tone, and other aspects. The controls for the port are also clever. And designing it so it can be played in any orientation without screen rotation, also clever.
This is the ultimate, deconstructed game. You are a point (okay, a line segment) wandering a graph. Other points also wander the segment; if they hit you, you die. But this simple idea is enough for enjoyable puzzles. (I'm waiting for graph theory to show its face.) I adore it; it is deeper than it looks, with constantly shifting puzzles.
One of the most innovative phone puzzle games I've played this year! I love the way game will show you a mechanic and then make you think about it like, does it work like this as well? And those little aha's are wonderful! So simple, yet so delightful! The controls take a bit of getting used to, but they're pretty intuitive as well. I am worried I will run out of levels, but I am a long way away from the last level (I think). 9/10 - This one's a keeper!
Beautiful and simple game. You follow a line and solve simple (but not necessarily easy) puzzles. The music is lovely, the visuals are intricate than you might think, and the ending is truly satisfying, despite the simple nature of the game. There is a subtle element of storytelling without words.
Really cool game. But there's no way to save progress inside a level. If you don't make it to a certain spot before you have to go do something, you loose progress. Which is particularly frustrating when the app decides on its own to close while you're playing.....please add a way to save progress!
Great soundtrack and fun game play. Controls are a bit difficult. Adding other movement methods like a joystick, touch the way you want to go (like your finger is a magnet), dragging the light (would be awesome with a stylus), or even the option of leaving the tutorial direction indicator on would get it to 5 star for me.
The game seems really good, but I'm stuck in world 1 lvl 24. When I check the walk-through in YouTube, it seems that the red companion in my game is moving faster than in standard version. Which make the lvl 24 impossible to pass, because he is too fast compared to me. It's a shame, I really love the look and the simplicity of this game.
How in the heck do I keep my finger on the screen? I'm getting the "having to lift the mouse off the mouse pad to recenter" situation happening over and over and it adds a ton of friction to the fluidity of the gameplay. I don't know what the fix is, I just know that the added friction made me want to turn it off pretty quickly. That being said, the game is very aesthetically pleasing!
The gameplay and puzzle design is amazing, and I'm sure on other platforms with a keyboard or game controller the game is a lot of fun, but the mobile control scheme is unbelievably bad and there are a lot of late game puzzles (especially those with magnet lines and clone lines) that require precise timing and control that is virtually impossible on mobile. If you're thinking of purchasing this game do yourself a favor and buy it on Steam instead.
Interesting, clever concept with lovely little visuals and a charming soundtrack. The only problem is that this game doesn't have obvious and clear way to save. One has to learn (or by reading what other reviews say) that you just have to reach a certain level in order for the game to be automatically saved each time (and you don't know which levels, exactly). If you could please make saves more clear that would help people be less confused and less being at risk of not saving and restarting.
Starts off as a soothing and relatively pleasant puzzle experience throughout most of the game. I enjoyed the last few minutes of the day to the soothing music and gameplay of worlds 1-5. Finally, world 6 was nothing but. The timing required to solve the puzzles with the ridiculous “recording” feature were very meticulous to time just perfectly, even if you knew the solution to the puzzle. It was that tedious, often ending up in countless attempts to do the same solution which ultimately was the correct one. Became frustrating towards the end, and for whatever reason, I couldn’t finish the solution to world 6 because of a software glitch, thus preventing me from obtaining that completion achievement. Lots of potential, but after world 5, it was more of a headache and I just wanted to yank the bandaid off and move on.
The description of the game is totally at odds with the actual experience. Words like "euphoria" and "relaxing" are completely out of place when describing a game that requires precise timing and pinpoint positioning with touch controls that do not lend themselves to twitch gameplay. Objectively, it's not a bad game and if It's known what kind of game it really was before I bought it, I'd probably enjoy it, but the feeling of being subjected to a bait and switch leaves a bad taste.
Great but ... (1) having to replay longish parts of the game after reopening it is really boring (especially when I don't have time for a long session) and does not make sense in a game mostly constructed of one (or very few) screen puzzles (2) controls are sometimes frustrating when precision (timing, turning...) is needed
Inconsistent controls that don't work with the premise of a puzzle game requiring precise timing. Game "reverted" me into a state that I'd never been in previously where I had milliseconds to react before dying. To get out of that state requires you to move faster than the games limits allow. I enjoyed the premise of the game and it started off well but the more you play the more grating its flaws become. Ok idea but terrible execution.
